The ACA Provides Job Mobility
David’s (last name omitted at individual’s request) wife, Robin, is a breast cancer survivor. She currently works for the government, but would like to explore higher paying positions that might not provide health coverage in the group market. Under the Affordable Care Act, she could be assured of coverage despite her pre-existing condition and she would pay no more than other women in her age group. Robin is afraid to leave her current position because repeal of the ACA might leave her with no coverage or with premiums so high that they would be unaffordable.
Like so many before the passage of the ACA, Robin is stuck in a job she would like to leave, simply because she is a woman with a pre-existing condition.
